A good one for the 'Maintenance & Repair' section IMHO is www.bicycletutor.com . This is US-based, but none the worse for that - very clear and concise video and text instruction on all maintenance aspects. I tend to use this site and the repair section on the Park Tool website (already listed) to get me on my way.

Cheers Steve

Hi Simon
A couple of links that you might like to add to the list are:
Charities section - Action Medical Research offer a series of challenge rides throughout the UK. Cyclists taking part are asked to raise as much as they can to help find ways to prevent life threatening diseases and disabilities that affect babies and children.

Another that might be useful is for the Route Tracking section is Map My Tracks; a clever website that allows you to use your mobile phone to track your rides and upload them to the website where you can replay them and compare rides too.
Cheers, Mark

Cycle Divas Comment by Cycle Divas on October 21, 2009 at 11:47pm
Hi Simon,

Can I suggest two new links, one for the Charity section and the other for General?

Charity - The Environmental Justice Foundation (protecting people and Planet) They are entering their 2nd year of campaigning to raise awareness of the issues of child labour and the draining of the Aral Sea for cotton irrigation. This year's Great Fashion Cycle (London to Paris) promoted 'pick your cotton carefully' and saw riders of all ages and abilities with a fashion eco-conscience taking to the saddle in style! I'm already booked to ride next year and have made it my featured charity but we need more to come forward to cycle for lesser known charities! http://www.ejfoundation.org/page542.html

The second recommendation is my own site www.cycledivas.co.uk! Bit of a cheek, I know but my key passion is to encourage more women to cycle and cycle more frequently. As a cycle instructor and professional image consultant, I think I deliver a refreshing outlook combining teaching the art of cycle road craft with personal styling and, if you agree and like what you see, I'd be very honoured!

Thank you Simon!

Hi Simon, if you have time would you take a look at this website,http://www.communityfix.co.uk/. I have found it useful for reporting a broken traffic light, and can be used to report other street faults such as potholes etc. When a report is logged a copy is passed to your local authority, and you can even add a photo if you need.
cheers, Martyn.

No direct experience, CD. If you trawl the biking forums there is always the legend of a one armed cyclist doing oustandingly 'rad' things ! I am sure, from the way your mechanic was able to fix things, that this is not an uncommon problem.

I had the good fortune of meeting some 'Tweedies' last Sunday. Weskits and plusfours abounded. As the ambient temperature was only 4 degrees, I concluded their relaxed pace generated less wind chill than my triple layered approach. Perhaps there is…

Isn't the technical issue whether its safer with or without, regardless of what speed the helmet happens to protect you at ? So they don't protect you at 30mph hitting a car, but they do protect you when you fall off embarrasingly when you forget to…
