A good one for the 'Maintenance & Repair' section IMHO is www.bicycletutor.com . This is US-based, but none the worse for that - very clear and concise video and text instruction on all maintenance aspects. I tend to use this site and the repair sec…

I am so paranoid about my Ruby, that it rarely leaves my sight. She is locked in my office at night attached to the indoor trainer at the moment. Even in winter if (when) I stop at a pub, I take my pint outside to sit with her. She never gets chaine…

My ride to work...

Just a few links to a map and summary for my ride into work... I use a Garmin Edge 205 (about £90) which this website pulls the data from.

Our Desert Hero Hippo

Hi, I just wanted to recommend some light reading. One of our most dedicated members kindly passed on a blog to me that he had produced susequent to a trip he made, his "great Arabian ride", over 19 years ago...

I really recommend both having a read of his story and the photos and also looking-up Mr Hippo and putting him on your friends list!

Blog is at http://arabcyclist.blogspot.com/
Mr Hippo is at http://www.cyclesocial.co.uk/profile/MrHippo

Enjoy,

Cyclogs - Team Cycle Social

Really pleased this morning that the team has now grown to 13 riders on Cyclclogs! Fabulous. Looks like we're just a ride away from pushing up into second place also... so, come on, I know it's cold but lets get some time in the saddle and the miles online this weekend!!

We've got 3 dormant riders in there but am sure there are some miles being clocked up in the background...so, Tim, Dan and Red, let's 'av ya!

With a bit of effort now we'll be in second place to Cycle Chat, although they are c… Continue

A bike is for life, not just for Christmas

An article I noticed in London's Evening Standard just before Christmas. It's amazing to think that despite the current economic downturn, in London bike sales are up 200% on last winter!

CYCLING IS THE NEW GOLF FOR BUSINESS

CYCLING IS THE NEW GOLF FOR BUSINESS
Release: Immediate
By Sybil Ruscoe

It’s not just the kids who will be getting bicycles left under the Christmas tree by Santa Claus this year - bikes are the new ‘must have’ toy for the big boys too.

Cycling is fast becoming the new boom sport for businessmen, as corporate bosses forsake their traditional playground of the golf course in favour of getti… Continue

Hi Simon, seems there's only you and me on line at the moment! Just as an aside, I've been chatting with one member, a very spritely 70 years young guy who has asked me to "use my influence" to encourage all members to use the members map. He feels that this is a great benefit of the site because he want's to be able to contact people in his area t meet up for a leisurely cycle, yet not many members add their location.

What would be the best way, do you think, to encourage more to use it??

I'm off to bed in a mo and will be offline for a couple of days!

Let me know how you get on with teaching your son if you manage to get out and about this weekend!

Hopefully I've found a work around, installed XP in as a virtual machine in Linux. Apparently there are known issues with the control characters that the linux version of Firefox uses.

Hi Simon - I'm in the process of migrating to Ubuntu and getting shot of Windows at long last but unfortunately I'm having problems posting blog updates through Firefox on Ubuntu. I've attached the message i was trying to post and the error log from the console in Firefox, could you look into this for me ?

Hi Simon - yes let's do a civilized beer soon. Aiming to buy a new charger this week - have decided to go for similar to the one that got knicked. Annoying not being allowed the cycle to work scheme - I have been cycing my whole working life - 16 years - paid loads of taxes and I am disadvantaged like this!

Chains stretch, for sure. A tension tool like this will show the wear, and you can find out about tensioners at Charlie the Bikemonger - the tugs / tensioners are toward the bottom of the page. Ham

I believe you can share your courses, workouts and saved rides wirelessly with other Edge 705 users, but I can't comment on this as I'm the only person I know with the 705 so haven't tried it out! I also like maps and invariably carry a paper map w…

Ah-ha - so that's what was wrong with my 305! Garmin replaced though, no trouble. I confess for a fondness for paper maps, and since finding these on the Dunwich Dynamo, they are my favourite touring maps, with a map carrier velcroed to the bars.
