What's this for?

Thank you very much. I guessed it must be something like that but adjusting it seems to make no noticeable difference. TyT

This is a picture of my right brake pull. You can see a small spring loaded screw in the mounting. I am at a loss as to what this little screw is supposed to do. Does anyone know please?

Pavement cyclists in demise?

Dear Robert, ".... police cyclists riding on the pavement...." Do the West Mids Police have a history of prosecuting pavement cyclists. If they do then unless these two have a very good reason for…

A few words about yourself...
I have returned to cycling after giving up for nearly 20 years following an accident in which I was NOT badly hurt but which frightened me and in particular my new wife. She asked me to give up and I did. About five years ago I found a bike in a skip which I had rebuilt and started to use. My wife did not object too much so I have picked up my interest again. Until the Cycle Friday Project in London I was just doing weekend leisure rides. I now commute into Central London twice a week.

It's always worth being reminded of the dangers on the road but the thing is, I get rather p***d off with the media jumping on these sorts of bad news stories. When was the last time you read anything good about cycling?? Little wonder that people…

3 ½ cycle commutes this week, this is probably my limit, I feel pretty smug. I saw a lovely new bike and am really tempted - £449 in a sale!

I use this adjustment a lot when teaching children as they often have tiny hands and huge heavy mountain bikes with front and rear suspension. I wish these type of bikes were not the fashion as they stuggle to get up hills with all the weight! Perha…

i had this issue with my old cheap mountainbike... adjusting it didnt do anything... but its meant to. Some bikes I guess arent built to the standards they should be... but thats not really an issue as I have long enough fingers to manage. :P

Hi, It adjusts the amount of reach to the brake lever. If one was to screw it in, then the brake lever would be closer to the handlebar grip. HTH, ATB, Pau

I am a South London Cycle Commuter and have just happened on this story whilst browsing. This is just about 1/2 a mile off my commute route.

A cyclist was knocked down and killed after colliding with a skip lorry at a busy junction near Tower Bridge on Tuesday.

The death brings the total number of dead on Southwark's roads to three in three weeks.

The cyclist killed on Tuesday was hit and caught up in

No direct experience, CD. If you trawl the biking forums there is always the legend of a one armed cyclist doing oustandingly 'rad' things ! I am sure, from the way your mechanic was able to fix things, that this is not an uncommon problem.

Isn't the technical issue whether its safer with or without, regardless of what speed the helmet happens to protect you at ? So they don't protect you at 30mph hitting a car, but they do protect you when you fall off embarrasingly when you forget to…

You know my thoughts on this! It has been proved that helmets only protect the head in an accident where you or the car is traveling less than 13mph. (see CTC website). Furthermore, independent research shows that drivers actually give a wider bert…
