Just a few days off this week so decided to go for a ride on Monday.
Early srart with a cold NE wind blowing in Dorset as I headed into it with the sun on my back. All the way to Puddletown via Woodsford Castle and then up the Piddle valley before going up the 1:7 and into Cerne Abbas to meet my old mate the "Giant"!
Easy ride back to Dorchester then home to Weymouth.
Home for lunch and a lazy afternoon. It's good to have a bike...

So..on my daily commute - punctured [4 for the year, another thorn] by the side of the a remote-ish country road and a regular roadie [i ride a muddy as hell tourer] I see every morning just-sails-by-not -so-much-as-a-glance as i've got it upside down on the verge,...WTF! not a dickie bird of concern.
My puncture is a formality - He pissed me off big time...
Am I'm i being too sensitive here? I always stop for cyclists in distress.

I thought i'd throw this out to the floor. I know certain people's attitudes to cycle helmets, but I wondered whether the majority wear, or do not wear cycle helmets. Here is a short conclusion from a scientific paper.
Helmets provide a 63%-88% reduction in the risk of head, brain and severe brain injury for all ages of bicyclists. Helmets provide equal levels of protection for crashes involving motor vehicles (69%) and crashes from all other causes (68%). Injuries to the upper and mid facial a…

I am a South London Cycle Commuter and have just happened on this story whilst browsing. This is just about 1/2 a mile off my commute route.
A cyclist was knocked down and killed after colliding with a skip lorry at a busy junction near Tower Bridge on Tuesday.
The death brings the total number of dead on Southwark's roads to three in three weeks.
The cyclist killed on Tuesday was hit and caught up in

Hi all. My first blog - ooh, the excitement !!
Well, I'm looking to do a week or so tour in either/both Spanish/French Pyrenees this summer, and am looking for possible companions. I have been on the Spanish side a couple of times and really love the area, but not the French. I speak reasonable Spanish but not French, hence have shied away from exploring France at all.
Would be keen on a C2C style thing, but not rushed.
I am back to cycling after y

Tendonitis
Introduction
Tendonitis is inflammation or irritation of a tendon. Tendons are the tough, white, stringy and rubbery (fibrous) cords that link muscles to bones. They help to release the power created by a muscle contraction, which helps move the bones and joints. For example, the tendons that you can see on the back of your hands move your fingers and are joined to the muscles in the forearm.
Some tendons are covered with a protective and lubricating sheath of tissues, called the syno…

Runners Knee is also called Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, Patellofemoral Stress Syndrome or Anterior Knee Pain Syndrome.
Runners Knee is one of the most common causes of knee pain in all age groups, including teens and young adults.
It can be chronic or intermittent. It is common in runners, hence the term "runners knee", but also occurs in inactive people.
Runners Knee is a condition characterized by pain behind or around the kneecap. Poor kneecap tracking is belie

Hiya, I'm organising a 100km charity bike ride around the Bristol area on 19th June 2010. Can all you keen cyclists out there help me understand where I should post info about the ride to get as many people as possible signed up? The miminum sponsorship is £100 which is enough to buy a bike for an African family so they can fight poverty by collecting water for their crops, ride their children to and from schools and carry goods to market and back. Please help! Thanks, Sarah

Over the Christmas I was in Peterborough, waiting for my wife while she browsed around a few shops. I wandered off down a side street and found a small bike shop on a corner. Looking in the window I saw a selection of wheels hanging on hooks, each with it's own roughly written price tag on. I ventured inside, at first I thought there was nobody serving, until I heard a quiet "hello" from behind the counter. An elderly man sitting in his wheelchair, maybe the shop owner, welcomed me in. I had a l…

The Prestwich leg of the Manchester
Bike Friday cycle commute was under new management for 2010 as ‘Cat’ lead us into town. The previous leaders Jonathan and Liz are in the process of moving to Saddleworth and will be busy feathering their new nest for a new arrival so Cat has taken temporary charge of the ride. Although Cat is another member of Manchester Friends of the Earth she isn’t local and had generously cycl…

I just love my job. Being a Cycle Instructor is extremely rewarding; not just for me, but for my students too. I was reminded of this last weekend when my latest lady protegee embarked on her second lesson with me.
Let me set the scene: My wannabee cycle diva is around 30 years old and had never before straddled a bicycle before let alone ride it. So naturally, she came to me with a bag full of fears and worries but with a bundle of determination.
So, for her very first lesson, we met at a loc…

At long last my house sale is about to go through exchanging contracts tomorrow and out by Friday. I'll be giving Thorn a call during the week to ensure that their Sherpa frame will be able to carry the weight for a self supported tour as the smaller frames are made in smaller gauge tubing. I saw the attached picture in a Crazyguyonabike blog which one me over !!

Today is Sunday 17th Jan, I planned to have a short ride on my old peugeot, as the weather forecast was dry/bit of sun,3 or 4 degrees, just four or five miles around town on a couple of errands. Yesterday I gave her a good clean and fine tuned the gears, so was looking forward to it. I haven't been on the peugeot since I put on a couple of new alloy rims over the last two weeks, Don't like going on her when the salt is on the roads. However, as we had three family visitors(seperately), and I had…

That’s a question that I am often asked but what’s the answer? The simple answer is “I don’t know!” My first stop is a cup of coffee at a petrol station about 20kms from home – we are moving soon so it will only be 13kms away. I normally leave home between 6 & 6:30 am to avoid the heat and the traffic; even at that time, the traffic has already started to build up. All of my routes head north or north east against the flow of traffic.
So, I’ve had my coffee and it’s time to go but I still do…

Sustrans Rangers from central Lancashire are organising a weekend away cycling out of a place near the Marin Trail in Snowdonia.
We invite all friends old and new to join us.
We are staying in a converted chapel 'Tan-y-Garth'
'Tan-y-Garth lies about 5km directly West out of Betws y Coed which is on the Conwy to Blainau Ffestiniog (if I've spelled it correctly) railway line.
The accomodation is a centrally heated former chapel and includes drying room, lounge, dining area, kitchen, toilets &…

...I kept my world protected...
I rode to work a couple of times last week to the horror of my mother it was still quicker and more reliable than all the alternatives. I set off 15 minutes early and modified my route to stay on main roads that had cleared. I’m still avoiding a half mile section of NCN route 6 which takes you onto shared use pavements and gives you a break from Salford’s traffic. I walked to the main road from my house (our street is still a long way from being clear of snow) an…
